Christopher Reiger is an artist and writer living in San Francisco, California. Originally from the rural Delmarva Peninsula, he attended the College of William and Mary (B.A., Studio Arts, 1999), in Williamsburg, Virginia, before moving to New York City, where he lived for a decade. He graduated from the MFA program at the School of Visual Arts in 2002, and his paintings and drawings have been included in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. Christopher’s essays on art, ecology, and natural history are published in books, art and culture magazines, and online journals, as well as on his award-winning blog, Hungry Hyaena. He teaches art classes at Root Division, an arts education non-profit in the Mission District, and at the Sharon Art Studio, in Golden Gate Park, and lectures in undergraduate and graduate art programs about art’s relationship to ethics, ecology, and society. Christopher also works part-time as a laboratory administrator at the University of California, San Francisco.
